Promote a healthy body, community with Timber Run/Walk 5K

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — An organization known for planting trees around Lafayette is planting its roots in the 5K world.

Tree Lafayette will have its first ever Timber Run/Walk 5K in April.

Matt Green, Tree Lafayette’s board president, and Jake Franklin with Franklin Finish LLC joined News 18 This Morning to talk about the event.

Organizers say the event provides a great opportunity to teach others about Tree Lafayette.

“A big part of what we need to do is get the word out there about what we’re doing and how we do it,” Green said.

The race will take place at McAllister Park, the old Lafayette Municipal Golf Course. The setting is perfect for those who enjoy the beauty and value of trees.

“There will be trees lining the finish line,” Franklin said. “It’s going to be a great time for the family and a really nice way to bring in spring.”

People of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend. A 1-mile course will also be available for children.

All proceeds will directly benefit Tree Lafayette and its efforts to sustain a healthy local environment.

“Every year we plant hundreds and care for thousands of trees within the city of Lafayette,” Green said.

The event will take place Saturday, April 22, at McAllister park. The event will start at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.

The cost is $20 before race day and $25 on race day.
