Ground is broken on new playground at McCaw Park

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette city officials gathered Wednesday to break ground on the new playground at McCaw Park.

Construction on phase one of the three phase project is now underway.

Bill and Michele McCaw donated $126,000 for phase one of the park. During Wednesdays’s ceremony, Bill surprised Lafayette Park Superintendent Claudine Laufman with a $107,000 check for phases two and three of the project.

Bill McCaw said he is proud to have his family’s name on a park that will provide a great memories for residents.

“I like surprising people in pleasant ways and it always feels good to make somebody else happy especially when it benefits others,” said Bill McCaw.

McCaw also spoke highly of the Lafayette Parks Department.

“It’s always clean and well kept and we have no problems having our name on it, we’re proud of it. And we’re proud of what they do,” said McCaw.

Phase one is expected to be complete but June of this year with phases two and three completed as early as August.
