WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — It was a time to celebrate Hawaiian culture at Purdue University Friday night.
It was the 2017 Spring Luau. The event is hosted by the school’s Hawaii Club.
There was a buffet of traditional Hawaiian food, and there was also entertainment, including Polynesian dances and stories.
Organizers said the event is all about the cultural experience.
“I think it’s important here because in a time of great tension where people feel like they’ve been excluded and feel like they are on their own, I think it’s great to have people come here for a celebration,” said Chaynna Guinto, president of the club. “And like most people say, you can’t celebrate without food and entertainment.
Guinto said the event started several years ago, but club officers took a break. This is now the second consecutive year for it.
