LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — St. Elizabeth School of Nursing announces an academic partnership with the University of St. Francis out of Fort Wayne.

The new partnership comes after Saint Joseph’s College ends its agreement with St. Elizabeth after more than 30 years. That was due to Saint Joe’s closing because of financial problems.

Graduates will now receive a diploma in nursing from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and a bachelor of science in nursing degree from the University of St. Francis.

However, the new partnership doesn’t mean Lafayette students have to travel to Fort Wayne to meet the course requirements.

“They’ll complete the nursing courses in Lafayette,” said Michelle Gerrety, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing director. “And they’ll complete the sciences here in Lafayette, and the general education courses will be offered here in Lafayette or online.”

St. Francis is providing faculty to teach the courses at the Lafayette campus.

Saint Joseph’s College will end its arrangement after the May 2017 graduation.

Gerrety said both Saint Francis and Saint Elizabeth are in the process of finalizing what is necessary for approval from their respective bodes.
