LEBANON, Ind. (WLFI/AP) — An 80-year-old Lebanon man has died, days after he was assaulted in his home. Authorities believe his son is to blame.

As News 18 reported last week, 48-year-old James Buchanan Jr. was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and strangulation.

Police said on March 13, his mother called Lebanon police saying she believed her son killed her husband. James Buchanan Sr. was found unresponsive in the home and was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition.

Police say he died five days later.

Lebanon police say changes to charges will be decided by the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office. Boone County Prosecutor Todd Meyer tells the Lebanon Reporter he doesn’t intend to file any additional charges in the case until Buchanan’s family has time to grieve.

Mark Inman, Buchanan’s court-appointed attorney, declined comment to the Associated Press Tuesday, saying he had just received his client’s case.

Buchanan Jr. remains in the Boone County Jail on a $1 million bond.
