FULTON COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — Indiana State Police identified the victims in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday afternoon sent several people to the hospital and left a toddler dead.
Julian Gonzalez, 11 months, of Monterrey, Indiana succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and died after being transported to a Plymouth hospital, Indiana State police said in a Sunday press release. CPR was being performed on him at the crash scene on U.S. 31 and State Road 110, near the Marshall-Fulton county line. Gonzalez was a passenger in a 2013 Ford Taurus.
Two adults Brittany Gonzalez, 21, and Ivan Gonzalez, 21, along with 2-year-old Isaac Davis were also in the Taurus. They were all transported by a medical helicopter to a hospital in South Bend with non-life threatening injuries.
ISP said the crash occurred while Brittany Gonzalez was driving the Taurus south on U.S. 31. She tried to turn east onto S.R. 110 but did not yield to an oncoming 2011 Ford 350 pickup truck, and the vehicles collided. The pickup’s driver, Ricardo Hernandez, 24, of Goshen was uninjured in the crash.
Police say they do not believe alcohol or narcotics were involved in the crash, both children were buckled up properly in child-safety seats and only Ivan Gonzalez was not wearing a seat belt.
Traffic was impacted on U.S. 31 for several hours as state police reconstructed the crash site.
