INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI/WISH) — A new high school is now closer to opening its doors in Indianapolis.

Purdue University announced a new partnership between Indianapolis Public Schools and its Polytechnic High School coming to the city in fall of 2017. Officials also revealed the new school will take over a building on Washington and Rural streets.

The Polytechnic Institute would allow 150 IPS students in its first class. It looks to help them to succeed in high school and earn their diploma, while being admitted directly to Purdue.

“It will be an opportunity for kids throughout Indianapolis, particularly here in the Englewood area — the east side, to get a quality education and then if successful, which we hope they all will be, a direct admit to Purdue University or any other University of their choice,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said. “So we are really making higher education available, at the local level, in an area of our city that needs it the most.”

The Purdue Polytechnic High School is chartered by the city of Indianapolis.

The new building’s renovations are set to be done by fall 2018.
