Lafayette man arrested after impersonating a police officer

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette man faces for charges for allegedly impersonating a police officer in West Lafayette.

Kenneth Lucas, 59, was arrested after someone reported a man trying to break into multiple cars at the West Lafayette High School Athletic Complex last week.

Lucas was allegedly wearing a police hat and told bystanders he was a police officer when confronted. He also flashed a badge and breath test operator card.

According to court documents, police found stolen items from a DNR conservation officer in Lucas’s car, as well as a loaded handgun.

Lucas also faces charges for theft and possessing a firearm without a permit.
