LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The YWCA and Ivy Tech Community College kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month Monday.
West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis, Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski and State Rep. Sheila Klinker announced October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month at a ceremony at Ivy Tech.
The Lafayette YWCA and Ivy Tech have partnered for years to bring awareness to domestic violence.
Dozens of people were on hand as a domestic violence survivor spoke about her journey. T-shirts designed by victims of domestic abuse were also on display.
The goal was to give domestic violence a voice and a face.
“It’s one thing to talk statistics, and talk about how how many women and men are affected by domestic violence, but it’s quite another to hear a personal story,” said Debi DeBruyn, executive director of the Lafayette YWCA.
The YWCA has events planned all month long including a luncheon on Oct 12. To find out more about the events, click here.
