TIPPECANOE CO,. Ind. (WLFI) – Bauer Community Center and Tippecanoe School Corporation are planning to expand their Head Start Program from two schools to four this year.

Head Start currently offers free preschool to Dayton and Mayflower elementary schools. With the expansion, TSC will offer Head Start preschool at Battle Ground and Woodland elementary schools.

Educators said offering more preschool will help to better educate area youth.

“We’re real excited to expand the partnership to two more schools in TSC,” said Dayton Principal Courtney Wildoner. “Anytime we can offer preschool to more families everyone benefits.”

Wildoner says the program also offers children a chance to learn about area elementary schools.

“They are already in our building and they know what a Dayton Bulldog is, and we can say ‘hi’ to them so they are already like a part of our family before they even set foot into kindergarten,” said Wildoner.

Those interested in enrolling their children in the Head Start Program must contact the Bauer Community Center for an interview. Bauer Family Resources is located at 330 Fountain St., in Lafayette, or you can reach the community center by calling 765-742-5046. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
