WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (The Exponent) – Though transitioning may be tumultuous at times, Purdue is closer to potentially shifting from a semester to a trimester system.

In a previous interview with The Exponent, President Mitch Daniels reiterated the rationale behind his administration’s advocacy for a trimester calendar.

“The serious goal is to make maximum use of summer consistent with student demand,” Daniels said. “In the end, if it doesn’t serve the students, they won’t sign up, but it’s our job and our goal to try to structure an arrangement in which school is more or less year-round here.”

Troubling insight from students about the issues associated with impacted classes, such as postponed graduation, bolstered the President’s decision to further former President Córdova’s trimester initiative. The lack of core curricula offered during the summer contributed to the scheduling gridlock students have faced in past semesters, thus forcing some to suffer financial stress extra semesters of tuition creates, until now.
